With the blessing of the Parish Council the Friends of Wavier Pond met at 9.00 a.m. on 2nd May, with our forks and spades and trowels at the ready, to add to the very sparse existing planting. Our aim is to restore the pond to something like its former beauty using only native and non- invasive plants and by so doing to attract wildlife.

The plants were very generously supplied free of charge by Joe Kingston of Greenfingers Landscapes and under his expert guidance we planted irises, marsh marigolds, sedges and rushes.

The ducks and their brood gave their immediate approval by paddling to one of the newly-planted areas and settling there.

It is hoped that by improving the appearance of the pond there will be less undesirable behaviour by the feckless few who apparently gain satisfaction by throwing things in it and at the ducks. Let’s hope this optimism is not wildly misplaced!
