The weeks of planning and preparation were rewarded with a good turn-out of approx. 60 people including some lively and well-behaved children who enjoyed “crowning” Rachna’s masterpiece of Prince William and Lyn’s Treasure Hunt.

Gloria had excelled herself despite having fewer helpers than were expected – very many thanks to all those who did help and stayed on to clear up at the end. The flowers were stunning, the food delicious, the Pavilion a triumph in red, white and blue – bunting, balloons, napkins etc.

Steve Driver of ‘The Sumthin Difrent Disco’ deserves particular mention too; he played music suitable for all ages and entertained everyone including the children with his humorous repartee and witticisms. We adults became ‘hip’ again as we twisted to Ernest Evans aka Chubby Checker and recalled our (mis-spent?) youth.

The raffle was well-supported, making £120.00, and the many prizes much appreciated. One table (Hannah and Lee and family) got all 20 quiz questions correct – or so they claimed! However the high spot of the evening was the arrival of a helicopter carrying Catherine and William (Helen and Michael) who treated us to a revised rendition of Sonny and Cher’s ‘I Got You Babe’ to great applause and much laughter.

Judging from the comments everyone seemed to have a good time and went home happy.
