Speeding Traffic
In response to recent concerns about speeding traffic in the High Street, the council developed a scheme under the County Councils's Jointley Funded Minor Highways Improvement scheme for a new pedestrian crossing near the Silverley Way junction.
However, it emerged that if successful, the scheme would cost £65,000 and that our contribution would be £55,000. An alternative option of a zebra crossing, albeit cheaper at £15,000, was still unaffordable.
In view of these costs the Council had little alternative but to withdraw the bid. It is hoped to meet shortly with Highways officials to discuss how it might be possible to improve pedestrian safety at a more reasonable cost.
