Low-Cost Housing Survey 2010.

Last Summer Cambridgeshire ACRE carried out an extensive survey within the village of Ashley with a view to establishing whether or not there was a need for low-cost affordable housing in Ashley.   The results were based on 67 replies out of a possible 268,  that is  25% of the Ashley households.

From the replies the survey found that there was a need for a small development of 6-8 small 1-2 bedroom houses (or bungalows).  Cambs ACRE has now asked the Parish Council to establish that it is or is not the wish of the majority of Ashley householders to go ahead with such a scheme if suitable land could be found within the village.  Assurance has been given that priority for these homes, if built, would be given to people living in Ashley or who had strong links with the village.

In order to send Cambs ACRE a realistic representation of the views of the majority of Ashley residents on this important topic the Parish Council needs to hear from, ideally, every household in Ashley but this is not an ideal world so we don’t expect miracles.   But if you do hold a view either for or against the proposed scheme do contact Chris Lewis (Parish Clerk) on the link below or any other members of the Parish Council - their contact details can be found in the 'About Ashley' magazine.  The Parish Council needs to hear from a much greater number of households than 25%  so please do let you views be known if you want them to count.

Ashley Parish Plan

Those of you who have lived in Ashley since 2003 may remember completing questionnaires which led to the production of the Parish Plan for Ashley.  You may even have been a member of the steering group which put in many hours deciding what questions to ask in order to produce the information on which to base our plans for taking Ashley forward in a methodical fashion rather than simply dealing with issues as they arose.

The Plan was completed and published in March 2005 so now some 6 years later we need to carry out a more in depth review than we have been doing in the intervening years.

The Plan highlighted 27 actions that were thought necessary or desirable by the residents of Ashley in 2003/5.  Many of these actions have been carried out or are still ongoing.   What the Parish Council needs to know is:-

‘Do the 2011 Residents of Ashley still believe that the Parish Plan remains relevant  or are there other issues that are deemed to be important or more important at this time and for the future few years?’

Without carrying out a full scale survey of every household in the village the Parish Council is asking that you take a few minutes to look through the Actions indicated in the Parish Action Plan which can be accessed on the link below - pages 28-36.  Please let the Parish Clerk or a member of the Parish Council know your views as to whether there is something that you think still needs to be addressed or if you think the actions listed are still relevant (if they have not already been attended to.)
