Pavilion Break In

In the early hours of Tuesday 13 September 2011, the Police were called to the Pavilion to investigate a break-in during which 2 windows and a door had been smashed.

Cupboards were ransacked and raffle prizes of wine and chocolates taken along with the Bowling Club trophies and shield. Some of the wine was consumed inside the Pavilion and bottles had been smashed alongside the path and on the grass.

A keen-eyed, public-spirited Ashley resident observed a man on a bicycle who he thought was behaving suspiciously and called the Police. Some of the trophies were recovered by the Police and an investigation is underway.

So far the damage on this occasion has cost The Pavilion Trust well over £300.00 and by the time the door is replaced this may well reach £500.00, a sum which can be ill-afforded and which if claimed against the insurance policy would considerably increase the annual premium.

It should be remembered that the previous act of mindless vandalism on the night before the Fete when 10 windows were broken, the bill came to £260.00 in addition to the work undertaken by the Trustees at their own expense.

Remember it is YOUR Pavilion and its upkeep and maintenance depends on all of us.

The Trust would urge everyone to take responsibility for keeping an eye on The Pavilion and please report any suspicious behaviour to me.
